Apparently I am a glutton for punishment. I had written a story about a princess and her ladies maid and about an adventure they had exploring a hidden hallway in the castle they live in. I got the idea from a writing prompt.
I’d been submitting it all over, but it hasn’t found a home and probably won’t. And then I got to thinking that I could write a bunch of stories about these two girls exploring other parts of the castle.
So along with my Harold and Sallie stories (still working on those and still publishing those, I promise!), I’ve decided to start a new series of stories about Emmy (the princess) and Tilly (her best friend and ladies maid)
Ideas for other stories about the girls are exploring the tower, the cellars, a day in the kitchen, and a day in the market, one story about going through all the books in the library in search of a book about the castle history. And probably a story or two about their childhood and about the kingdom and it’s history.
I still have to come up with a name for the series. Something clever but not to cutesy.
I don’t know yet if I want to publish them in a book form like I want to do with Harold and Sallie. And that’s still a year or two out; I’ll probably see how that turns out first.
(As you can see, the feline overlords have taken over our lives)
Rejects for the month as of this writing is up to 15, so it’s looking like I’m on track for an average of a reject a day. I’m not submitting to any lit mags, currently. Mainly because I’ve really run out of places to submit to and pieces to submit that haven’t taken world tours of lit mags already.
Other things I’ll be working on, at least for the rest of the year are a couple of Harold and Sallie stories - mainly focusing on Sallie’s childhood and I still have tell about how she got caught in the tree that Harold freed her from.
I’ve got a couple of ideas for stories from my trip down to New Orleans. I just have to decide if I want to write them from a fiction point of view or a memoir sort of view.
As always, thanks for reading!
